The Davie Swim Team represented DC quite well yesterday at the 4A State Championships at the Triangle Aquatic Center.  Teams started competing early Thursday morning in the preliminary rounds to try and qualify for the top 16 championship finals in the night session.  Davie featured a relay in both the Women and Men's 200 Medley Relay. 

The girls team of Bailey Folmar, Danielle Wood, Morgan Sessoms, and Blakely Gantt swam to a 23^rd finish overall out of 24 teams.  The boys team of Quin Holland, Jacob Sink, Caleb Little, and Nick Sinopoli swam to a 17^th place finish just barely missing out on the night session by less than a hundredth of a second to a relay team from Panther Creek High School in Cary.  Oddly enough their team is coached by former Davie Alumni Larry Umberger.  I talked to him while I was there and we might try to get a meet together next season at GAC (Greensboro Aquatic Center) to give our kids a chance to swim there before regionals and get a look at a quality East Region Team. 

Bailey was up next in the 200 Free and swam to a 5^th place finish in the morning session to secure her spot in the championship finals where she ended up finishing 7^th overall in the state.  She went a 1:53.85 in prelims and a 1:55.71 compared to her previous best time of a 1:56.00.  In the 100 backstroke, she tied for 9^th in the prelims and then finished 13^th overall in the state in the night session.  She was faster today than she had been all season for us, but I know she had to be tired that night after swimming 4 events that morning and 2 again in the night round.  Making the Championship Finals in both of your individual events your senior year is an accomplishment in itself and considering the girls she was swimming against last night, I think she did a remarkable job.

Danielle Wood competed in the 50 Free and 100 Free.  She finished 22^nd in the 50 Free, but swam well in the 100 Free and moved on to the championship finals.  She swam to a 14^th place finish in prelims and  13^th in the finals.  She dropped time in both swims too.  She really did have a great meet.

The 400 Free Relay of Folmar, Morgan Sessoms, Maria Stillson, and Wood did a great job by shaving off almost 5 seconds from their previous best to finish 19^th in the state.  I couldn't have asked for anything better from them.  They swam great and should be proud of getting better.

For the men, Quin Holland was the lone individual competitor for Davie, swimming in the 50 Free.  He finished 13^th in the state overall with a time of 22.25.

The 400 Free Relay of Holland, Little, Sink, and Sinopoli finished 19^th overall and shaved almost 6 seconds from their previous best time.  Caleb, Quin, Nick all had incredible splits in that race.  They gave it all they had and were happy with the results.

As a team, the girls finished 23^rd with 19.5 points, and the guys finished 38^th with 4 points.

The entire team had a great time and I think this experience made them hungry for more and I'm feeling pretty sure that they will come back next season and work hard to get back to Cary next February.  It was a great day, there were many state records broken last night and I think that says a lot that our kids were there competing with the best.  I think overall there were at least 5 records that fell.  It was an exciting night for sure.
